The Municipal Director General of Jaman Sud in the person of the Hon. Andrews Bediako in the Bono area has warned citizens, especially people under his jurisdiction, to fulfill their civil obligation by paying their taxes to enable the Municipal Assembly to undertake massive development projects within the municipality.
This was made known when the Municipal Assembly held its stakeholder consultation meeting on the 2023 Fee Setting Resolution.
The participants who attended the meeting were the Assembly members, business owners, “Okada” riders and other stakeholders within the Jaman Sud Municipality.
In a speech by the Chief Municipal Executive, he revealed that under the Local Government Act, the Assembly is mandated by law to set the rate for the budget year.
According to the Municipal Chief Executive, paying taxes is very important in the development of the municipality and therefore people should know that paying taxes is their obligation to the government.
He pointed out that the funds coming from the central government are intended for special projects such as the construction of schools, hospitals, among others, but that they alone cannot cover the daily management of the assembly, such as meetings, allowances for members of the Assembly and other miscellaneous common funds. don’t care about. Therefore, it is necessary that the natives pay their taxes to enable the Assembly to carry out its mandate.
As for the “Okada” runners, he urged them to pay their taxes to the Assembly to enable the Assembly to reshape all major city roads within the municipality.
He further warned some people who sit on the radio station especially in Jaman Sud Municipality to stop dissuading people from paying taxes as it hinders national growth and does not help the Assembly to generate the internally generated fund (IGF) required.
He further warned all home owners and business owners in the municipality to pay their base rate and land survey to avoid having their structures locked up by the assembly.
He finally added that the Assembly will urgently draw up a list of all tax defaulters and deal with them in accordance with the law of the Assembly for the collection of taxes.
