PUNE: Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has extended the amnesty program for 15 days for the January 25 property taxpayer deadline. Under this program, tax defaulters will receive a 75% discount on the amount of the fine.
The PMC standing committee approved the extension proposal on Tuesday.
Standing committee chairman Hemant Rasne said, “Many elected officials have suggested extending the program for 15 days and allowing citizens to pay the default tax amount.
Head of the Property Tax Department, Vilas Kanade, said: “The program was open from January 7 to 26. PMC granted an extension, hoping to generate more revenue.”
PMC collected a record property tax of ₹1,400 crore this year despite the Covid situation.
Rasne said, “PMC has launched the amnesty plan twice this fiscal year with the aim of recovering maximum property taxes from citizens.”
