Chandigarh, May 28
Transport Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar today asked school principals to pay school bus taxes by August 5.
He said strict action would be taken against violators after the stipulated time granted under the amnesty program by the state government.
In a meeting with school owners and principals here, Bhullar asked for full cooperation for the successful implementation of the Safe School Vahan program and made it clear that no laxity would be tolerated on student safety. He said the school bus shortcomings should be fixed by August 31 to keep students safe.
“The school management will be fully responsible for any untoward incident due to the lack of required equipment on the buses in accordance with the rules,” the minister said.
Bhullar said, “All Deputy Commissioners and SSPs are instructed to check school vehicles and confiscate buses that break the rules.”
He also urged parents to immediately inform the relevant authorities in case of violation of rules in school vehicles such as lack of fire extinguisher, first aid kit, speed limiter, emergency window, adequate provisions for keep school bags, permits, appropriate child seats, etc. The school’s name and phone number must be written on the buses, he added. —TNS
