SALARY RANGE FOR HIRING OF THE TAX ASSESSOR SUPERVISOR: $53,772 – $60,838
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Performs administrative and professional tasks in the valuation of real estate for tax assessment purposes. An employee in this class is responsible for supervising and appraising real estate for tax purposes, checking permits and listings to locate structure and additions that are not in the tax books, and structural sketches. Work also includes guiding the county-wide revaluation project, evaluating subdivisions and land divisions, measuring to obtain images or areas, and research and comparisons to determine appropriate values. .
The work involves extensive contact with the public and may involve controversial and appealable decisions. The job requires extensive independent judgment, initiative and responsibility to implement new systems for the county and serve as coordinator for the reassessment team. Work subjects the employee to internal and external environmental conditions. Work is carried out under general supervision and is reviewed through lectures, reviews of work, records and documents, and citizen feedback.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from a two-year college or trade school with specialized courses in real estate or appraisal and significant supervisory experience in real estate, tax appraisal or property management; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to obtain certification from the North Carolina Department of Revenue as a Real Estate and Personal Property Appraiser. Possession of a valid North Carolina driver’s license.
