Dr Ebrima Jagne, leader of the All People’s Party, has pledged his government will exempt Gambian farmers from paying all types of taxes in this country.
Speaking with confidence, Dr Jagne therefore challenged all political leaders in the country who would run in the December 4, 2021 election to publicly commit to allocating half of their salary to the country if any of them wins the presidential race.
He said, âIf the APP government comes to power by the grace of God in three years, we will set up – farmers would no longer pay taxes. Poor Gambian farmers would pay no tax – whether it is a municipal tax or a garden tax, they will be exempt from tax.
Dr Jaign, 61, added: âWe are going to stamp out this system because it is (horrible) these struggles to get what they are going to eat and you are putting the burden on them that they have to pay a huge amount of taxes. Let us balance the tax system fairly.
The doctor turned politician continued, âI challenge any political leader who wants to run in 2021 to promise to allocate half of their salary to the people if they win the election. I challenge any of them to do it.
He replaced Mr. Gumbo Ali Touray in 2020, after Mr. Touray stepped down as leader of the People’s Party, paving the way for the election of Dr. Ebrahim Jaigne as party leader and secretary general.
Mr. Touray is now chosen as the party’s flag bearer for the presidential election scheduled for 4e December 2021.
