The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Chennai, while protesting the property tax hike, said it was the decision of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government to increase the property tax by such a high percentage.
BJP MP Vanathi Srinivasan said, “Only for convenience, they put the blame on the Finance Committee or the Planning Committee.”
Attending the protest against the property tax hike in Tamil Nadu, the BJP MP said, “The honorable house, together with the CM, had said that without an alternative, they are taking the decision to raise the property tax. “
BJP’s Vanathi Srinivasan, who is BJP National Chairman Mahila Morcha, also pointed out that when the AIADMK government took the decision to increase property tax under the last regime, MP Stalin staged a protest and stood up. asked if the proposal was for the property tax, or for the value of the property itself.
She further criticized the DMK government saying, “Now on the one hand they say they have created a new model in India. On the other hand, they accepted their failure to find adequate resources to run the government. This is the current pathetic situation in Tamil Nadu.

“The central government gives various directives, while the state government opposes several of the directives given by the center. Why are they following this? It is only for convenience that they blame the Finance Committee or the Planning Committee,” said BJP MP Vanathi Srinivasan.
She also spoke about local agency funds and the recently completed urban local agency surveys. “Funds for the development of local bodies, etc. are stopped if the election is not carried out in accordance with the directives of the finance committee and the SC to ensure the strengthening of the democracy of the local body.”
“It is the directive of the SC not to give funds to the local body if the elections are conducted inappropriately,” she said.
“The guideline is to properly notify taxes, and neither the planning commission nor the Center asked for a 100% or 150% tax increase. It was the state’s decision to raise taxes by such a high percentage,” the BJP MP said.
