The city of Midland reported a 20.19 percent increase in the monthly sales tax report in December.

The city raised $ 4.054 million, which easily surpassed the $ 3.373 million in December 2020 and gave the city its biggest sales tax levy (in percentage) since the region’s economic downturn began.

The collection was also larger than every December of the past decade, with the exception of 2018 and 2019, which were among the two most successful fiscal year collections in the city’s history.

December also ended the first quarter of fiscal 2022, and $ 12,564,000 raised was the third highest first quarter collection in city history (trailing again as fiscal 2019 and 2020). This year’s fiscal year collection is 3.68 percent higher than fiscal 2021.

sales tax revenue is generated by sales tax revenue two months prior to collection, ie, the December collection is based on October sales.
