Changes to the Easter Benefit Payment Date for Universal Credit, Tax Credits and Child Allowance

Benefit payment dates will change at Easter due to two seasonal holidays, resulting in a reorganization of processes. Relevant payments include universal credit, child allowances, tax credits and other types of government financial support.

New payment dates have been announced by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and people are urged to take note to avoid any issues. The DWP said that if you were due to receive your payment on Friday April 15, you will actually receive your money a day earlier on Thursday April 14, reports The Mirror.

And if you were due to be paid on Monday, April 18, the payment will arrive in your bank account three full days before Thursday, April 14. The persons concerned are persons whose usual payment date falls on one of the Easter holidays. . A similar change will occur during the May Bank Holiday and for the Bank Holidays marking the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

For the former, if your payment date lands on Monday, May 2, you can expect to receive your money on Friday, April 29, due to the public holiday. Similarly, for the latter, if your payment date falls on Thursday, June 2 or Friday, June 3, you can expect to receive your money on Wednesday, June 1, as those days are public holidays.

If the amount you receive or expect to receive is not enough, you can apply for hardship compensation, but you will have to pay it back. You can read more about this on the government website.

Dates of payment of family allowances in April

Child Benefit pays £21.15 per week for the first child and £14.95 per week for subsequent children to eligible parents. From April it increases to £21.80 per week and £14.45 per week for additional children.

If you are due to be paid on Friday, April 15, the DWP indicates that you will be paid on April 14 instead. Likewise, if you are due to be paid on Monday, April 18, you will receive your payment on April 14 instead.

If your payment date falls on a normal day that is not a public holiday, you will receive your payment as normal. All payments are automatic – so you won’t need to contact the DWP if you’re concerned.

April tax credit payment dates

The tax credits operate as a separate system and the benefit is paid to families who need it most, such as those who need help with childcare, who are disabled or who have low incomes. There are two types of tax credit: the child tax credit and the working tax credit. You may be eligible for one or both, depending on your situation.

What about Universal Credit payment changes?

Depending on your “Assessment Period”, the date you can expect to receive your Universal Credit will change around Easter. This period begins on the date you first apply for benefits, and you will then receive money each calendar month thereafter. Funds are generally released 7 days after the end of the initial evaluation period.

But, as the Easter weekend gives millions of workers two days off, the money you expect to receive could change in date. If you expect to receive your money on Friday April 15 or Monday April 18, you can expect to have the money in your bank account on Thursday April 14.

That’s because Friday is Good Friday, so it’s a holiday, and Monday is Easter Monday, another holiday.

Payment period :

  • Due: Friday, April 15, 2022 – Paid: Thursday, April 14, 2022
  • Due: Monday, April 18, 2022 – Paid: Thursday, April 14, 2022

What about state pension, ESA, income support, care allowance and other benefits over Easter?

As with Universal Credit – if you need to pay on Easter Friday or Easter Monday, support will be provided on the previous Thursday instead.

This also applies to Attendance Allowance, State Pension, Caregiver Allowance, Disability Living Allowance, Employment and Support Allowance, Jobseeker’s Allowance, Pension Credit and Personal Independence Payments.
