What is the Universal Credit?

Millions of parents receiving family allowances, tax credits and more financial aid are warned to be aware that their payment dates will vary over Christmas and New Years to reflect both holidays.

HMRC – which handles payments – has published a list of key dates for your diary during the festive season.

And it’s not all bad news, as most families will see their transactions settle sooner than usual – on Christmas and New Years Eve.

Family allowances were first introduced in the 1970s to help working parents cover their living expenses. Today he pays around £ 20.70 per week for the first child and £ 13.70 per week for subsequent children.

However, if you or your partner has an income of more than £ 50,000 per year, you will be liable for the High income child benefit costs. This means that you will have to pay 1% of every £ 100 you earn to the government at the end of the tax year. You can read how it works, here.

Tax credits are entirely separate. It is a benefit paid to those who need it most, such as families who need help caring for children, working people with disabilities and people with low incomes.

There are two types of tax credit: child tax credit and work tax credit. You may be eligible for one or both of them, depending on your situation.

We’ve outlined when you can expect your benefits to materialize this holiday season below.

Beneficiaries of care allowance, state pension, care allowance, living allowance for disabled people, employment and support allowance, claimant’s allowance Employment, Pension Credit, and Personal Independence Payment may also receive Christmas advance payments. You can find the dates below.
